The United States' Administration has made the devastating decision to end all U.S. support to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). UNFPA works on the frontlines of more than 150 countries to end child marriage and female genital mutilation and provide critical services like pre-natal care and safe childbirth, voluntary family planning, and midwife training. UNFPA is the organization Zonta works with on the project in Niger to prevent early marriage and in Liberia, Zonta International has partnered with UNFPA to treat and prevent obstetric fistula.
Zonta International president, Sonja Hönig Schough and Zonta International Advocacy Committee Chairman Maria José Landeira Oestergaard have now addressed the impact of this action by the US Administration in a formal statement. Click here to read the policy statement.
Zonta Clubs, we encourage you to take action and contact your legislators to advocate for the reinstatement of full U. S. support for UNFPA! Find contact info through this site: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members
