Advancing the Status of Women Worldwide

Who's Who | Find Out More

What is Zonta?

Zonta International is a worldwide organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.

What does Our Local Club Do?

Chartered in 1930, Zonta Club of Burlington, Vermont, through its diversity of members, provides opportunities to improve the status of women along with developing mutually beneficial relationships with other executives and professionals.  Our club contributes time and money to local, District and International projects that provide a wide variety of services to women in our communities and around the world.  With 79 years of service in the Burlington area, our membership today includes professional women in teaching, human resources, real estate, accounting, financial investment services and social work, as well as distinguished long-standing members now retired in their field.  Our Zonta contacts are a network connecting us to a broad group of business associates not only locally, but nationally and internationally as well.

What are some of the Zonta Club of Burlington's local service projects?

Locally, our club has given time and/or financial support to The Battered Women’s Shelter, the Breast Cancer Action Group, Fletcher Free Library, Lund Family Center, Polar Express, Ronald MacDonald House, The Salvation Army, Sara Holbrook Center, The Sarah Cole House, the Stern Center for Language and Learning, Vermont Public Television and Vermont Women’s Mentoring Program. We also contribute to the Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarships of Zonta International.

Our signature event is a fund-raising adult spelling bee to benefit the Champlain College Single Parent Scholarship Program.  This event is now in its thirteenth year.

Recipient of the funds raised through the March are Women Helping Battered Women, and Women’s Rape Crisis Center. (WHBW will use their funds to buy educational kits to be used in schools to work with children around the issue of trauma; WRCC plan to spend their funds on a camping retreat for women who have been victims of sexual assault.)
