The Zonta District 1 Fall Conference will feature a range of amazing individuals who will share their insights with attendees.

Sharon Langenbeck, Ph.D.
Vice President 2016–2018
Zonta International & Zonta International Foundation

"I am honored to be at your District Conference in Pittsfield, MA as your International Representative and Board Liaison.  It is a pleasure to work closely with Governor Joanne and to learn more about District 1. The strength of the organization is built on relationships and collaborations.  The conference provides an opportunity to share your club’s activities, successes and future plans --- let your voice be heard.  Our impact is greater when we work collectively."

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet and spend time with the woman in line to be our next International President!  She will lead Zonta International during its Centennial anniversary ~ and we will be among the first to hear what that will look like and how we can participate.

KayKhannChild Marriage in Massachusetts – Yes, It Happens Here
State Representative Kay Khan, RN, MS

State Representative Kay Khan has represented the City of Newton in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 1995.  She was originally appointed by Speaker Robert DeLeo in 2009 to serve as the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities, and has served in this capacity ever since.   It is Rep. Kahn’s hope that you will be inspired by her talk and that you will contact your State Legislators to advocate to end the marriage of minors, and to educate your community about this issue and the legislation.

The Zonta Club of Berkshire County is hosting the 69th annual Zonta District 1 Official Fall Conference, “Making our Voices Heard” on the weekend of October 20th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.  The conference speakers will present action items to progress Zonta’s vision of a world in which women's rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential.

The conference will begin with a welcome by Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer and feature an array of topics on women’s issues.  State Representative Tricia Farley- Bouvier will welcome State Representative Kay Khan as the keynote speaker to discuss the elimination of child marriages in Massachusetts and improving the treatment of incarcerated women.  A Zonta representative to UNICEF USA, will offer an update from our ‘Let Us Learn’ partnership service project in Madagascar with ways we can help locally.

A forum of accomplished panelists dedicated to helping those with opioid addiction will discuss the depth of the problem and ways we can combat this growing health and community crisis.  Panelists include Chantal Silloway - program director for CHD's Goodwin House; Jennifer Kimball - Director of Opioid Prevention Coalition in the Berkshires; Dr. Maria Gallo whose affiliations include Clean Slate Center for addiction treatment; and Debra McLaughlin - coordinator of Opioid Taskforce Franklin County.
