ywpa 2017The purpose of this award is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing their early commitments to volunteerism, leadership, and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.  Each club is encouraged to solicit applications from young women aged 16-19, offer a cash award, and name a Club YWPA Winner.  Club Presidents then forward their winners on to the Governor/District level, and one of the Club Winners will be selected to receive a $1,000 District YWPA Award.  All of the District winners then go on to compete for a total of ten $4,000 International Awards.

We have had great participation in District 1, and we’ve been very lucky to have some District 1 YWPA winners receive International Awards.  If your club has not participated recently, now might just be the year!  I am happy to talk to anyone to help you get started.

Everything you need – the application, sample press releases, sample promotional posters, check-lists, grading rubrics, and more can be found at the link below.  For inspiration, you can also read about the 2016 International winners.

Clubs set their own deadlines for receiving applications – often in March – with enough time for a group to review and select a winner before April 1st.  In order to be considered for the District Award, Clubs must submit the winning student’s application via email to me no later than April 1, 2017.  The District Committee will then select a winner and submit that name to International by May 1.

Good luck and have fun!  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to be in touch.

Thank you,

Jenn Kerwood
