Below you will find a letter and information about the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, 2025. While clubs do not receive applications, or act on them directly, we are asked to promote the Fellowship to appropriate institutions. The deadline for 2025 applications is November 15, 2024. In addition, if current or prior recipients are attending schools or living in your areas, you are encouraged to invite them as guests to your meetings.  Governor Donna Raycroft or I will be in contact regarding the presentation of AE “Wings” and certificates for the 2024 AE Fellowship recipients.

I have been asked by Zonta International to share this information and materials with the clubs in our district.  We currently have five (5), 2024 AE Fellowship recipients, four (4) from MIT and one (1) from Brown University.  MIT has also had several recipients in past years. Clearly those schools are aware of the AE Fellowship, but it is important to continue to foster this relationship.

I would appreciate your assistance in locating and encouraging promising women at the Ph.D./doctoral level in aerospace engineering or space sciences to apply for the Amelia Earhart Fellowship. Zonta clubs can help by promoting the AE Fellowship Award to students in such institutions.  If you have any contact information with the Departments of Graduate Studies, Scholarships and Fellowships, please share this information with them.  I would also appreciate it if you could forward that contact information to me, so that the district can use it for further communications.

In addition, please direct the schools to the Zonta International website for more information on the Amelia Earhart Fellowship at zonta.org/AEFellowship.

• Zonta District 1 is very excited to announce that 5 of the 30 Amelia Earhart winners in 2024 are from our District. One of the winners is from Brown (RI): Kierra Wilk – United States; four are from MIT:  Shion Andrew – United States, Madelyn Hoying – United States, Mennatallah Hussein – Egypt, and Hannah Tomio – United States. These women will be honored with the awarding of their “wings” at a ceremony in January – details will be announced later.   For now, please check out the bios of Amelia Earhart Fellows for 2024.

Chloe was celebrated in January 2024 at an event hosted by the Zonta Club of Chelsea North Shore.

District 1 was proud to learn that the 2024 Amelia Earhart Fellowship was again awarded to an MIT graduate student. Chloe Gentgen is from France and is pursuing studies in Astronautical Aeronautics. She was presented with her “Wings“ and certificate by Club AE Co-Chair Theresa DiPietro and District Secretary Mary Knight, standing in for Governor Donna Sroka, at a special ceremony hosted by the Chelsea Club, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Logan Airport on January 18th. District 1 had three AE Fellows from MIT in 2022: Adriana Mitchell, Maya Nasr and Madeleine Schroeder. The MIT awardees received their wings and were honored in a special ceremony in January 2023 – Amelia Earhart month – hosted by the Zonta Club of Malden.  Governor Donna Sroka and members of Zonta District 1 Amelia Earhart Committee are available to speak about this prestigious award at MIT, WPI and other institutions.
