The nomination committee in Zonta (operating at the club, district, and international levels) acts as an independent, autonomous body responsible for identifying, recruiting, and vetting qualified candidates for leadership positions. It ensures transparent democratic governance by preparing official slates of nominees for upcoming biennia.
Core Responsibilities
- Recruitment and Encouragement: Actively seek out and encourage engaged members to run for elective offices, board seats, and committee roles. [
- Vetting and Verification: Review nominee qualifications, confirm eligibility prerequisites, and ensure strict adherence to governing bylaws.
- Consent to Serve: Contact prospective candidates, explain the specific duties of office, and obtain formal consent before placing any name on a ballot.
- Slate Preparation: Formulate and publish an official, unbiased slate of candidates ahead of club annual meetings, district conferences, or international conventions.
- Autonomous Function: Operate independently from current governing boards (such as club or district boards) to maintain fairness and prevent conflicts of interest in the selection process.

We have an immediate need in District 1 for an Assistant Treasurer.
Your skills could keep Zonta strong! District 1 urgently needs a volunteer Treasurer to help steward our mission and manage finances. Without one, we’ll need to hire a paid bookkeeper — which means increased dues for all members.
Role: Work with the District 1 Treasurer to learn procedures and timing needed to
- Keep accurate financial records
- Prepare clear reports for the Board
- Manage budgets & payments
- Help plan for Zonta’s future
Time: Only a few hours a month, with participation in board zoom meetings.
Skills: Strong organizational skills and comfort with numbers
Mentors are available on an ongoing basis to help with the specific requirements of the job.
